Job Description

The Center for Social Development Studies (CSDS) is seeking a project coordinator for a fellowship program and water governance study project in the Nu-Thanlwin-Salween River Basin.

The project coordinator position is a full-time position based in the CSDS, Faculty of Political Science, Chulalongkorn University ( The position entails regular travel within the mainland Southeast Asia region, and is available from 4 January 2016 to 31 December 2017 with a six month probation period. The position is managed by the Project Leader (See Footnote 1)Training as necessary will be provided.

The fellowship program is strengthening the capacity for undertaking research and policy engagement of scholars and practitioners of water, land and energy use, management and governance in the Salween Basin. A particular cross-cutting focus of the project is research on gender and other forms of social marginalization. Further details are here:

The water governance research project is mapping out the economic and political drivers and rationales – as well as their potential impacts – that shape water governance in the Salween-Thanlwin-Nu River Basin. Its goal is to catalyze more inclusive, informed and accountable decision-making. Further details are here: skills for the position are:

o Thai and English spoken and written language skills

o Organized and an effective communicator via email and in person

o Competent computer skills, in particular in email, MS Word and MS Excel; experience managing websites is an asset, although training will also be provided

o Able to manage basic accounting tasks, with diligent documentation into MS Excel and maintaining receipts

o A working understanding of Social Science research, and some knowledge of river-related issues is an asset

o At least a Bachelor-level degree in a relevant field or proven equivalent experience

The roles and responsibilities of the Project Coordinator are as follows

o General project implementation

– Help coordinate and participate in various regional meetings of the project researchers and consortium members (approximately 8 regional meetings per year)

– Coordinate with project coordinators from partner projects in Ubon Ratchathani University and Vietnam Academy of Water Resources and other consortium members

– Prepare sections of the project progress report under CSDS responsibility, to be finalized and approved by CSDS Project Leader.

o Manage project fund

– Manage and disburse funds for the project within the Faculty of Political Science

– Manage receipts and maintain a basic account book for further processing by the project accountant

o Communications

– Maintain the project website pages on the CSDS website for the fellowship and research project

– Coordinate with the WLE communication team, including managing the production of blogs by the consortium members

– Coordinate the dissemination of various public project materials (reports, policy briefs) including preparing a communication database

o Research fellowship coordination

– Coordinate introduction of mentors to research fellows, and manage receipt of deliverables from fellows

– Coordinate the participation of research fellows in seven training workshops over the period 2015-2017

– Coordinate participation of research fellows in their attendance of other regional research meetings
