The
Technologist in Computational Materials & Data Science requires an experienced and highly skilled candidate to function in cross-discipline engineering roles. The position is based in the Analytical & Characterization Engineering Department,
but the candidate will cross multiple engineering departmental lines while developing both internal solutions to materials characterization challenges and implementing data structures for analyses that facilitate state-of-the-art supervised and unsupervised
machine learning.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop algorithmic approaches to analyze complex and combinatorial data sets originating from a diverse array of materials characterization and
metrology techniques. - Develop automated applications from the algorithmic analyses, which can be deployed both internally in the lab environment and externally to the
engineering customers in design, development, NPI, and production. - Develop and implement data architecture and infrastructure to facilitate data mining and both supervised and unsupervised learning from vast and
diverse physical characterization data repositories.
Qualifications
REQUIRED:
- Master’s Degree with a major in Materials science / Engineering / or related field with directly relevant thesis topic
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience in materials science or related field with a solid foundation in the following criteria
– Materials science and engineering
– Statistical learning techniques with both structured and unstructured data
PREFERRED:
- Doctorate’s Degree with directly relevant thesis topic or similar post-doctoral experience with a solid foundation in the following criteria
Advanced image processing with feature detection and classification experience would an additional benefit.
– Materials science and engineering
– Statistical learning techniques with both structured and unstructured data
- Advanced image processing with feature detection and classification
experience would an additional benefit. - Experience and capability to interface with both local relational and distributed, cloud-based databases and sources is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with Monte Carlo and other statistical simulation methods and their applications to materials synthesis problems would be beneficial
but not required
SKILLS:
- Excellent command of the English language (written/verbal)
- Competent in multiple programming domains for the development and implementation of algorithms, including but not limited to the following; Python
/ MATLAB / R / JMP
